NCAA semifinalist Syracuse will meet Delaware on Saturday, Oct. 16 at Radnor High at noon in a women’s collegiate Fall Ball game.
This will be the third straight year that Radnor has served as host of a women’s Fall Ball game between major Division I powers. Two years ago Northwestern faced North Carolina and last year Syracuse played North Carolina.
The Orange feature three Philly women – junior midfielder Heather Wentz (Unionville) and two freshmen midfielders that earned All-Philllylacrosse.com honors last year, Upper Dublin’s Amy Cross and Pottstown’s Kasey Mock.
Last year Syracuse finished 15-7 and reached the semifinals before bowing to eventual champion Maryland.
The Blue Hens went 6-10 last year and are led by first-year coach Kateri Linville, a former Delaware standout. Philly women on the roster include senior midfielder Julianna Jeffers (Springfield-Delco), junior midfielder Kalyn McDonough (Unionville), sophomore defender Kendall Bailey and a large freshmen class: Shannon Burns (Springfield-Delco, midfield), Bridget Burns (Notre Dame, midfield), Abbie Hartman (North Penn, attack), Chelsea Fay (Villa Maria Academy, attack) and Casey Rooney (Merion Mercy. midfield).
Shannon Burns, who led the Cougars to the finals of both the District 1 and PIAA championships as well as a share of the Central League title, along with Hartman were All-Phillylacrosse.com picks last year.
