The Cabrini women’s lacrosse team is heading back to the NCAA Tournament following a 24-12 win versus Gwynedd-Mercy College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title game on Saturday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The victory clinches the Cavaliers’ second consecutive conference championship and 10th in program history.
Senior attack Erin Nollen (Henderson) powered the Blue & White with a team-best 10 points on six goals and four assists. Nollen was named the game’s most valuable player.
Senior attack Amanda Alexandrowicz (Ridley) totaled seven points, pairing three goals with four assists. Junior attack Jamie O’Hanlon (Springfield-Delco) posted six points with four scores and two helpers.
Freshman attack Christina Pasquariello (Harriton) recorded five points with three goals and two assists. Senior attack Danielle Rothermel (St. Hubert) netted four tallies.
Senior goalkeeper Kate Schmid (St.Hubert) notched four saves in just over 48 minutes played. Schmid also scooped three groundballs.
Cabrini is now 11-0 when winning more draw controls than its opponent. The Cavaliers owned a 25-12 advantage in the draw control category versus the Griffins as junior defender Courtney Davis led the way with a team-high 11.
The Blue & White raced to a 7-1 advantage with 21:24 remaining in the first half. Nollen netted three of the Cavaliers’ first seven goals. O’Hanlon capped the spurt with her 100th career goal.
Cabrini held a comfortable 17-6 cushion at the intermission as Nollen deposited each of her six scores in the opening 30 minutes.
The Cavaliers led 22-7 with 15:22 left in the second half. Junior attack Kristen Vernon (West Chester East) scored Cabrini’s final goal at the 5:25 mark.
Senior midfielder Bridget Gibson (St. Hubert) scored three goals for the Griffins in the loss. Junior midfielder Kristie Pollock (Unionville/2G, 1A) and sophomore midfielder Shannon Carabba (Springfield-Montco/1G, 2A) also tallied three points. Colleen Dellostretto (Upper Moreland) and Kerri Boon (Interboro) each had two goals.
The win advances the Cavaliers to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time program history, all under 14th-year head coach Jackie Neary. Cabrini played in the national tournament for six straight seasons from 2000-05. The Cavaliers returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2009.
Cabrini (11-7) will learn of its NCAA Tournament destiny on Sunday, May 9. The NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship brackets will be announced on CBS College Sports Network during the NCAA Lacrosse Selection Special. The selection special begins at 10 p.m.
