Penn State Abington’s Director of Athletics Dr. Karen Weaver announced that Deb Andress has returned to the women’s lacrosse program as its head coach.

Deb Andress

Andress, who took a medical leave in 2008-09, assisted in 2009-10 part time. Andress’ health continues to improve, leading to the decision to take over the reigns of the program once again.

Andress brings an outstanding lacrosse background to the position. She has coached and/or played at nearly every level, from youth to national play. A former member of the United States Women’s Lacrosse Team Squad from 1980 to 1984, Andress also played for the Philly I and II club teams, perennial powerhouses in the sport.

A graduate of Penn State, Andress played both field hockey and lacrosse for the Nittany Lions, and was a member of teams that won two AIAW National Championships during her tenure. She was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

Andress has remained in touch with the game through founding and directing summer camps and leagues. She served as head of the selection committee and
direct and coach the OLMC Girls Lacrosse Youth Organization for second- through eighth-grade girls in Bucks County. She is currently a full-time instructor in Kinesiology at Penn State Abington.

Penn State Abington begins its second year of NCAA Division III provisional status in 2010-2011. The Nittany Lions are members of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and the ECAC Last year, the women’s lacrosse team finished the season 3-7 overall, and 2-5 in the NEAC in only the second year of the program’s existence.
