Radnor junior attack-midfielder Elizabeth Lowry has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Duquesne University.

Radnor junior Elizabeth Lowry has committed to Duquesne

Lowry was a contributor on each of the past two Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association championship teams for the Red Raiders. She plays club lacrosse for SEPA.

Lowry plans to major in education, but also is considering the sports and business fields.

“I choose Duquesne University for a number of reasons, including their lacrosse program, coaching staff, campus, and academics,” she said. “I went to Duquesne’s camp this summer and loved working with (head coach) Mike Scerbo and (top assistant) Gina Oliver (Pottstown graduate and standout on the 2009 World championship team).

“I think their coaching style and Duquesne’s lacrosse program will offer me the greatest opportunity for success at the Division I collegiate level. I loved the atmosphere at the camp and all the girls were enthusiastic and hardworking.”

Lowry also liked the location of the campus in Pittsburgh.

“Duquesne is the type of school I am looking for and the campus set it apart from other schools,” she said. “Duquesne is located in downtown Pittsburgh, but yet the campus is located on a hill apart from the city streets. The best part about the lacrosse field is that it is right in the middle of campus.”

Lowry, who also plays field hockey at Radnor, is excited about the 2011 lacrosse season. The Red Raiders graduated nearly their entire starting lineup and lost longtime coach Phyllis Kilgour to retirement, but Lowry is confident the team will remain a power.

Radnor has two seniors that have committed to Division I colleges: goalie Annie Woehling (Princeton) and attack/midfielder Leah Gallagher (Notre Dame).

“I am very excited for our upcoming season,” Lowry said. “I am confident that our new coach, Brooke Fritz, will do a great job with our already successful program.

“She has done great things so far with our fall ball and has started a Booster Club. Even though we lost 10 starters I know that we will work hard to get back to the state championship again.

“My teammates and I are ready for our turn to run the show with the experience we have had. This is the opportunity we have patiently waited for.”
