Malvern Prep junior defenseman Jack Sheridan has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at NCAA runner-up Notre Dame University.

Sheridan was a contributor on a Friars team last year that shared the Inter-Ac League championship with Haverford School and finished 13-8. Sheridan plays club lacrosse for HEADstrong Elite.

Sheridan becomes the second Philly junior to commit to the Fighting Irish, who fell to Duke, 6-5, in overtime in the championship game. Recently, Conestoga midfielder Adam Goins committed to play at South Bend.

  • Sheridan said he plans to study business. He also considered Harvard, Princeton and Johns Hopkins.

“I had a great visit and I really like the coaches,” he said. “I like the way the players interact.

“Academically, I think the school speaks for itself. It’s one of the best, if not the best undergrad business programs. I think the team will continue to be one of the top five teams in the country and I like the way coach (Kevin) Corrigan and (Gerry) Byrne run the team.”

Sheridan is the second Malvern Prep junior defenseman to commit to a Division I college. Eddie Morris committed to Johns Hopkins in the summer.

In all Malvern Prep has seen eight players commit to Division I colleges. Seniors Keith Dreyer (Air Force, midfielder), Jack Morgenthaler (Navy, LSM), Drew Kennedy (Johns Hopkins, face-off specialist), TJ Hanzsche (Navy, attackman), Vince Travaglini (Massachusetts, midfielder) and Mike Dougherty (St. Joseph’s, attackman) also have committed.

Sheridan is confident the Friars will again challenge for the title under first-year coach Dave Metzbower.

“I think we have a strong defense, and coach Metzbower will help the team continue where it left off,” Sheridan said. “I like our chances right now.”
