West Chester East rising senior midfielder Blair Bonner has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at St. John’s University.

WC East midfielder Blair Bonner has committed to St. John's

Bonner was a First Team Ches-Mont League pick in 2010 for the Vikings. Bonner, who also plays for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club, participated in the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association (EPSLA) Showcase in June.

Bonner is undecided on a major, but is leaning toward studying pharmacy or business.

“I like the campus and it’s cool being so close to New York City,” he said. “And I really liked the coaches.”

The Red Storm, which plays in the Big East, started 0-4 last year and then finished strong by winning five of its final 10 games.

Bonner will be joined at St. John’s by Philly recruits Joe Venit (Springfield-Delco, attackman) and Mark DiFrangia (La Salle, defenseman).

Bonner, who missed several weeks during the scholastic season with an ankle sprain, said he was first seen by St. John’s coaches at the EPSLA Showcase. He said he also was scouted while helping the Duke’s L.C. 2 reach the finals at Champ Camp where it fell to Duke’s 1.

Bonner wished to thank West Chester East head coach Jim Schorn and assistants Brett Moyer and Rob Shrader and Duke’s coaches Marty Kupprion, Chris Fallon and Joe Vetrone for helping in his recruiting process and development. He also thanked his father for his continued support.

Next year Bonner expects East to improve. “We’re losing a bunch of guys, but we’ll have some younger guys stepping up,” he said.
