play Division I lacrosse at the US Military Academy at West Point.

Shade, of Spring City, was a first-team Middle-Atlantic Prep League choice and an all-league Academic pick this spring for a team that tied for the league title. Shade, who plays club lacrosse for Twist, said he was impressed with the West Point coaches and the structure of the military academy.

“They showed the most interest in me and once I started to learn more about the school I got more interested,” he said. “I really like the coaches and when I met the team I liked the guys.

“I also like the seriousness of the program and the discipline.”

Shade also plays football (running back/linebacker) and ice hockey (defense) at The Hill.

“Actually, I went there to play ice hockey, but it turned out I liked lacrosse the most,” he said. “Lacrosse has become more and more my thing. I like the intensity of the game and it’s a game you never get tired of playing.”

Shade said the Blues should again be a factor in the MAPL next year.

“We’re graduating a good class, but we have a few talented players and a good rising junior class,” he said. “It looks pretty good.”
