Women’s recruit: Radnor’s Hays likes mix of academics and lacrosse at Colgate

Radnor senior defender Beasley Hays has signed a letter on intent to play next year at Colgate University

Hays, a starter on the Red Raiders’ 23-0 team that claimed the District 1 Class AAA championship in 2008, chose Colgate for its balance of academics and lacrosse.

“I was looking for a school that has good lacrosse and good academics,” said Hays. “I love the size. I wasn’t looking for a school that’s too big. I also like the atmosphere; I think it’s somewhere I definitely want to be.”

Hays said she will study either sociology or foreign affairs.

Currently, though, Hays is focused on preparing for the 2009 campaign. Radnor, coming off a magical season, will be in the hunt for the Central League and District 1 titles.

Hays will be one of only three seniors for Radnor and will play a key leadership role.

“I am definitely excited to be given this opportunity,” she said. “We want to prove ourselves this year. Obviously last year’s senior class was amazing and we want everyone to know we’re just as talented and driven.

“We have high expectations of ourselves and we want to go as far as last year.

Is there extra pressure when you’re coming off a 23-0 season?

“There’s a little pressure,” she said. “Mostly we’re just excited and really motivated.”
