Staff Report

Phoenixville senior defender Heather Parris has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at High Point University (N.C.).

Parris, a starter since freshman year, was a second-team All-Pioneer Athletic Conference pick in 2007 and 2008 for the Phantoms. She has played four years of club lacrosse with PA Express.

Parris will be a member of the first NCAA-sanctioned team at High Point, which just announced a year ago it was starting a varsity lacrosse program. The team will play an independent schedule.

Parris committed to High Point in August after falling in love with the campus during a college visit. She plans to major in International Business.

“I just knew it was the school for me,” said Parris, who has career totals of 34 goals ands 20 assists. “The campus is beautiful, the coaches are nice, young and energetic; they make it exciting.”

The school, located in High Point, has been ranked No. 1 among “Up and Coming Schools” in the U.S. by US News and World Report.

“Seeing Heather play at the middle school, I thought she had the potential to be a good player,” said Phoenixville coach Jen Foresta. “When she came in as a freshman, she surprised us with her skill and game sense, earning herself a starting varsity position.

“Because of Heather’s natural athletic ability, we can use her anywhere on the field and know she will be successful.”

A member of the Varsity Club, Parris also played varsity basketball in her freshman and sophomore years. She played volunteers as a coach for the Dynamite Travel Lacrosse Team. She also volunteers at the Melmark Home where she works with adults with disabilities.

Parris wished to thank her parents, Steve and Mary, as well as Foresta for their support.

“It has been a privilege to coach Heather,” Foresta said. “I think High Point University, which is a new Division 1 program, is getting a special player on whom they can build their future.”
