Interboro senior midfielder Steph Parcell has signed a letter of intent to play at Temple University.
Parcell, a first-team All-Del-Val League pick last year, said she chose Temple based on its academics and its recent success in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
“I wanted to stay close to home so my parents could see me play,” Parcell said. “But the main thing is that they have an awesome academic reputation and have a lot of majors in the health care field.
“I am not sure what I will major in yet, but it will be something in the medical field. I am thinking physical therapy because it has to do with sports and people with sports injuries and I’d like to rehab people back into top shape. I like to help people.”
Parcell, who is ranked among the top 20 in her class, also liked the fact that Temple is the defending A-10 champion and coached by the highly-regarded Bonnie Rosen – who will be inducted into the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame next weekend.
“The lacrosse program and the coaching staff is awesome, coach Rosen, coach (Nicole) Moore and coach (Jennifer) Wong,” she said. “The fact they got into the (NCAA) playoffs last year is pretty cool. I really liked it when I made my visit and the girls said it was awesome.”
Parcell will play a key role for the Bucs this year. Last year Interboro tied with Harriton and Sun Valley for the Del-Val championship and advanced to the District 1 Class AA playoffs. This year’s team will be young, she said.
“We lost a lot on defense so it will be a little bit of a rebuilding year,” she said. “But we have been playing well together and I am optimistic.”
