Gwynedd Mercy Academy senior attack Calli Foley has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at Hofstra University.
Foley was an Athletic Association of Catholic Academies all-league choice in 2009 when she scored a team-high 47 goals for Gwynedd Mercy. She also led the team in scoring as a sophomore.
Hofstra, located in Hempstead, N.Y., is coached by Great Valley graduate Abby Morgan. Foley plans to major in Accounting.
“I love the facilities and the campus,” Foley said. “It’s a big campus, but not overwhelming. I loved the atmosphere and I’m friends with a player on the team (sophomore Maryann Miller, a Ridley grad) who played with me on Ultimate Goal (club).”
Foley also played four years of varsity golf at Gwynedd Mercy and served as captain as a senior. She also has lettered in basketball.
Foley, citing the efforts of second-year coach Jack Kessler, is confident the Lady Monarchs can improve in 2010 after winning three games last year.
“Coach Kessler is building the team back up,” she said. “I think this year we’ll have a pretty good team. We don’t have a lot of speed, but we have a lot of hustle.”
