Garnet Valley senior attack Tori Mitros has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at George Mason University.
Mitros was a Central League Honorable Mention pick last year for the Jaguars when she collected 40 goals, 33 assists, 15 draw controls, 41 groundballs and 25 caused turnovers. Mitros, who served as a captain, was voted the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player by her teammates.
Mitros, who plays club lacrosse for the Lenape Premier Lacrosse Club, has 106 goals and 61 assists in her career at Garnet Valley.
An honors students, Mitros is considering English for a major.
“It’s not too big of a school, and they made me feel like part of the team as soon as I showed up there,” she said.
Mitros is one of three Garnet Valley seniors to sign a Letter of Intent. The others are midfielder Kelsey O’Donnell (Duquesne) and attack Allie Henry (La Salle).
Last year the Jaguars went 9-10 and reached the District 1 playoffs. With the group of returnees and a new coach, Garnet Valley grad and former Villanova assistant Kate Henwood, Mitros is optimistic heading into 2010.
“With our new coach, we will hopefully win enough to make it to the playoffs again and make it further than last year,” she said.
