Women’s recruit: Agnes Irwin’s Keating is happy to follow her brothers to Duke

Agnes Irwin School senior midfielder Caroline Keating will follow her two older brothers to Duke University after signing a letter of intent to play next year with the Blue Devils.

Keating’s brothers, Dan and Mike, both All-State players at Episcopal Academy, played at Duke in the 1990s.

“I know they had such great experiences there,” said Keating. “I thought it would be cool to follow them there. Plus, I have a great relationship with (Duke) coach (Kerstin) Kimmel (a Haverford High graduate).

“When I went there for my unofficial and then my official visits, it struck me how close the team is. I already know (Baldwin grad) Emma Hamm and (Merion Mercy grad) Taylor Fleming. I really liked the incoming class that signed before me.”

Keating is leaning toward majoring in psychology. “The campus is beautiful, “ she added.

Keating, who also has participated in swimming and soccer at Agnes Irwin and has played basketball outside of school, has enjoyed playing many sports.

“The other sports keep me in shape,” she said. “That helps a lot for the beginning of the season. I also like the idea of how basketball helps with my footwork.”

Keating is excited to begin the new season. The Owls were competitive last year in the Inter-Ac League, but lost a lot of tight games. This year Keating is hoping for improvement.

“We have some great incoming freshman,” he said, “We’re going to Florida for Spring Beak and that should help us prepare.”
