West Chester University has been named a Division II Merit Squad for academic excellence by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). To achieve Merit Squad status, the school must have one of the top three collective GPAs in its division.
Meanwhile, six Philly teams in the Division I level and six more at the Division III level have Academic Squad honors for posting collective GPAs of over 3.0. The Division I teams included Drexel, La Salle, Penn, St. Joseph’s, Temple and Villanova The Division III teams were Bryn Mawr, Eastern, Haverford College, Neumann, Swarthmore, and Ursinus.
Two of the Division I Merit Squads were coached by Philly grads. Stanford (3.523 GPA) is coached by Amy Bokker (Phoenixville) and Hofstra (3.50) s guided by Abby Morgan (Great Valley).
West Chester led all Division II women’s teams in the nation with a collective GPA of 3.407. Recently, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference named 18 members of the team on the league Academic Honor Roll.
