Springfield-Delco senior attackman Colin keegan has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at St. John’s University.

Keegan was a first-team All-Central League and Honorable Mention All-Phillylacrosse.com pick in 2009 for a team that reached the state semifinals. He led the Cougars in scoring with 73 points (40 goals, 33 assists) and participated in the inaugural Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association (EPSLA) Showcase in June at Haverford College.

Keegan also had 40 goals (team high) and 25 assists in 2008 and earned first-team all-league and Honorable Mention All-Phillylacrosse.com honors.

He plans to major in Business at St. John’s, where he will be joined by fellow Cougar senior and good friend Joe Addona (long stick midfielder).

“I really liked the city and really liked being in New York,” Keegan said. “I talked to the coaches and they said, ‘Tell Addona we need a good pole.’ He ended up committing before me! It’s great because even our families are close.”

“I’m majoring in business and it’s a great location to major in business, being in New York City. The campus is enclosed and inside it’s big and open. They have great facilities and the coaches were great.”

Keegan can now focus on the 2010 season. The Cougars were 19-6 last year and ranked in the top 25 in the country at one point in the Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse National Rankings. They tied for second in the Central League and placed third in District 1.

This year Springfield returns most of its starters and also features Division I recruits Brendan Nave (Penn State), Josh Cavanaugh (Navy) and Austin Kaut (Penn State).

“We’re just setting a goal of nothing less than a state championship,” Keegan said. “We just have to want it more than any other team. We have to work harder and be more consistent than we were last year.”
