Springfield-Delco senior attackman Demcher commits to Ursinus College

Springfield-Delco senior attackman Jordan Demcher has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Ursinus College.

Demcher helped the Cougars reach the state semifinals and finish 19-6 last year, but he missed all but six games with several injuries, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament.  Demcher is expecting to be at full strength once the season starts.

At Ursinus, Demcher plans to major in Special Eucation. He will join a number of Philly recruits for coach Jamie Steele, including defensemen Michael Irvine (Malvern Prep), Ari Weisband (Lower Merion) and Dan Cohen (Conestoga) and attackman Scott Hueber (Malvern Prep).

“Coach Steele has a lot of plans to get the team going in the right direction and the campus was real nice,” said Demcher. “I wasn’t looking for a big school. Plus, I like that he is putting together a good class with a lot of guys form around here.”

Demcher has been working with the Life Skills class at Springfield in a special student aide program.

“I do a lot of work helping out the teacher,” Demcher said. “I’ve been doing that the last two years for a block. I get to be in the classroom and be begin to understand how everything works in that department. It seems interesting; something that goes beyond me to help others.”

Demcher is excited about the 2010 scholastic season. The Cougars return most of their starting lineup and have a large group of seniors that has played together for years. Last year Springfield-Delco tied for second in the Central league and placed third in District 1 before bowing to league rival Conestoga in the PIAA semifinals.

“I started practicing (recently) during optional indoors and I’ve been able to do all those (drills) 100 percent,” Demcher said. “I have been running and everything feels fine.

“There’s always been a hype around our class and it seems like each year we’ve been able to do a little bit better. The state title is our main goal and it would be a perfect way to cap off playing with this team since we’ve all been together since fourth grade.

“I think we have just as much skill as everyone. It’s just a matter of who wants it more. This year we definitely are going to work for that.”
