Robert Morris University freshman Courtney Sicinski (Downingtown West) made a strong showing in her collegiate debut in a Big East loss to rival Cincinnati Sunday and was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week.
Sicinski scored one goal and tallied a game-high three assists in the Colonials’ 11-10 overtime setback to the Bearcats. Her three assists came consecutively midway through the second half and turned a 7-6 deficit into a 9-7 lead with 11:28 left on the clock.
Carroll grad Johnson is Defensive Player of Week
Monmouth University senior goaltender Monica Johnson (Archbishop Carroll) has been named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week after posting 19 saves against Fairfield on Sunday. In winning the third NEC Defensive Player of the Week award of her Monmouth career, Johnson was outstanding between the pipes in a 17-8 loss to preseason MAAC favorite Fairfield on Sunday.
Mineweaser, Herlihy honored for St. Joseph’s
Goalie Suzy Herlihy and freshman Julie Mineweaser (North Penn) were named the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Co-Player and Rookie of the Week, respectfully.
The duo led the Hawks to a 14-2 win over Lafayette on Saturday in the A-10. Herlihy gave up just two goals stopping five shots and made four saves on free-position shot opportunities. This is the first weekly award of any kind for the senior goalkeeper who was named to the A-10 Second Team on 2008. Mineweaser tallied a game-high three goals and an assist in the victory. She also had two caused turnovers and a ground ball in her second collegiate contest.
