The Rosemont College Athletic Department has named Haverford High and West Chester University graduate Leigh Pesko the new head coach of the women’s lacrosse team as it returns in 2010 following a two-year layoff.
“I am thrilled and take honor in my new position as the head coach of the women’s lacrosse team of Rosemont College,” said Pesko. “I look forward to many new endeavors that the next couple years have in store for both me and Rosemont, and want to start putting the word out now, that if you are a dedicated lacrosse player, I am interested!”
Pesko takes over the program, which has been suspended for the last two years due to low player numbers. Lynn Rothenhoefer was the program’s only previous coach, guiding the team from its inception in 2001 to 2007.
Rosemont was called the Ramblers; now they are called the Ravens.
Pesko spent the 2009 lacrosse season recruiting for the 2009-10 season.
“I plan on focusing on recruiting heavily my first year in the position, attending numerous tournaments and games to let as many high school lacrosse players know what the new Rosemont College Lacrosse program has to offer,” Pesko said. “I want to focus on hard work and commitment to rebuild a great program with great athletes here.”
Pesko began her coaching experience in 2002 when she was a Haverford Township Recreation Department Lacrosse League Coach. Currently, she helps run the annual West Chester University Lacrosse Clinic as well as coaches the Pennsylvania Area Women’s Lacrosse team that won the Keystone State Games in 2005 and 2006.
She enters the position with a lifetime of experience starting from her time at Haverford High, where she was a four-year letter winner in lacrosse, basketball and volleyball. From there, she went to West Chester University where she lettered on the lacrosse team for four years. The team was the NCAA Division II National Championship runners-up all four of Pesko’s years.
“Coming from such a strong program at West Chester University, I have learned and played with the best; therefore, I can only expect the best,” said Pesko, who graduated in 2007 with a degree in Kinesiology.
“I just hope that everyone is as excited about the rejuvenation of this program as I am,” added Pesko.
