It was a strong year for Philly freshmen in the college ranks. Phillylacrosse.com recaps these freshmen men that played regularly in 2009 at the Division III level.
Saint Vincent attackman Will DeLanoy (North Penn) led his team in scoring with 36 goals and 27 assists.
Lynchburg attackman Dylan Hoff (Downingtown East) was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and earned All-State as he collected 32 goals and 16 assists.
Kenyon midfielder Andrew Kissner (Episcopal Academy) played in 13 of 14 games and scooped nine groundballs.
York College attackman Bradford Blaker (Henderson) had 26 goals and seven assists.
Cabrini attackman Brian Hill (Ridley) had 23 goals and 13 assists.
Cabrini defenseman John McSorley (Ridley) had 48 groundballs and 35 caused turnovers and was named CSAC Rookie of the Year.
Gwynedd Mercy College midfielder Nicholas Coan (Garnet Valley) led the Griffins in scoring with 11 goals and 24 assists.
Gwynedd Mercy College midfielder Stefan Hetland (Garnet Valley) had nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points.
Immaculata attackman John Cacchio (Holy Ghost Prep) led the Mighty Macs in scoring with 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points.
Immaculata midfielder Dante Tuscai (West Chester East) had 12 goals and four assists.
Immaculata defenseman Dan Burgman (Roman Catholic) started 11 games and 13 caused turnovers.
Neumann attackman Tom Hedrick (Springfield-Delco) had 13 goals in 14 starts.
Penn State Abington defenseman John Barrett (La Salle) had 38 groundballs.
Penn State Abington goalie Ian Lydon (Cheltenham) had 146 saves.
Widener attackman Johnny Casey (Abington) led the Pride in scoring with 40 goals and 10 assists, earning himself Middle Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year.
Widener midfielder Nick Fluharty (Avon Grove) won 175 of 321 face-offs (.554 percentage) and scooped 107 groundballs.
Scranton attackman Brett Greer (Ridley) had 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points.
Scranton midfielder Mike Rufo (Haverford School) had 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points.
Williams College attackman Sam Hargrove (Strath Haven) had 16 goals and nine assists for 25 points.
Franklin & Marshall attackman Kevin Kilpatrick (Salesianum, DE, West Chester) had seven goals and three assists in 11 starts.
Connecticut College’s Rory O’Connor (Haverford School) had eight goals and three assists.
