Two Philly girls have been cited among the nation’s top 25 incoming college freshmen and two more were mentioned on the Women’s Watch List in the September issue of Inside Lacrosse magazine.
North Carolina midfielder Emily Garrity – the Phillylacrosse.com Player of the Year for Strath Haven – came in at No. 9. Garrity, who led the Panthers to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) championship game, established national records for career points (695) and assists (289) in her four years of varsity play.
Princeton attack Sam Ellis was No. 18. Ellis set a school record with 109 goals while helping the Red Raiders win the first PIAA crown with a 25-1 record.
Also on the Inside Lacrosse Watch List are Johns Hopkins midfielder Sammi Arbitman (Episcopal Academy) and Penn’s Kelly McCallion (Notre Dame).
Two Philly girls were listed on the Rising Seniors Watch List. They include Radnor midfielder Kelyn Freedman (committed to Georgetown) and Hatboro-Horsham midfielder Lauren Purvis (Penn State).
Florida, which will compete this year as a first-year program under former Temple great and Spring-Ford graduate Mandee O’Leary, got the nod as having the top college recruiting class. O’Leary has brought in a remarkable class of 24 players, four of which are listed in the Top 25 incoming freshmen and seven of which competed in the Under Armour All-American Game.
