Penn Charter senior midfielder Kate Krieger has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Colorado College.
Krieger heard about the Colorado Springs school from her mother, Kim, a high school guidance counselor at Springside School. The previous year, Kim, advised Springside’s Leslie Jacobs to look at Colorado College and she is now a freshman on the Tigers’ lacrosse team.
“My mom told me about the school, and I have been going out West to ski for 10 years,” said Krieger, who normally skis in Utah. “That got me interested.
“When I visited, I was amazed at the campus. Oh, it was beautiful. When you’re on the field, the (Rocky) mountains are right there. You can just look at them.”
Krieger, who played club lacrosse for the Phantastix, noted that the Pioneers have a strong all-around program. Last year Colorado College went 10-3 and reached 10 wins for the fifth straight year. Also, for the sixth straight year it won NCAA academic mention for having its team post a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Krieger has won several academic honors at Penn Charter. She won the school’s excellence in Chemistry award as a sophomore and gained Academic All-American honors for lacrosse last year.
“I’m not entirely sure what I want to study, that’s why I picked a liberal arts school,” she said. “I wanted to go D3 because that way you don’t have to commit yourself entirely to lacrosse. I can reap the benefits of the school.”
