Former Vashon Island (WA) middie Eric Davidheiser has signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Penn State University.

Davidheiser started on the Vashon Island varsity as a freshman and sophomore before he transferred to the Hill School in Pottstown, in the fall of 2007. Davidheiser will be the first player from Vashon Island to ever play NCAA Division I lacrosse.

A 6-foot-1, 215-pound senior who now resides in Bucks Couinty and plays club lacrosse for Twist, Davidheiser is known for his ruthless hits. He said he also considered Hobart and Delaware but settled on Penn State after developing a strong relationship with assistant coach Guy Van Arsdale.

“He seemed interested about not only who I was as a player but who I was as a person,” Davidheiser said. “The minute I stepped foot on the campus at Penn State, it felt like I was at home there. And that was the deciding factor.

“I really wanted to go to a big school, but I also wanted to experience a college-town feeling,” Davidheiser added. “And Penn State gives you both of that.”

Davidheiser said he believes his two years at Hill School have helped prepare him for major college lacrosse.

“I think I’d be more nervous if I was coming all the way from the West Coast, but I’ve sort of leaned into it by spending these two years on the East Coast,” Davidheiser said. “The biggest thing I’m going to have to get used to is the physicality and the speed. I’m not going to be the biggest guy anymore, and the game is so much faster.”
