Central Bucks East senior attackman Brian Urban has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at St. Joseph’s University.
Urban was a third-team All-Suburban one Continental Conference pick last year for the Patriots, who won the league crown and reached the semifinals of the first District 1 tournament.
Urban, who scored 21 goals last year and plays club lacrosse for Bucks Select, said the Hawks were his first choice. He plans to major in business and focus on marketing.
“My neighbor is an alumnus and was kind of pressuring me,” said Urban. “But really, I went down to check out the school overnight and I really liked it.
“It is relatively close to home, has the business program I want and I seemed to fit well with the coaches and players. I always wanted to play at the D1 level. Plus, it will always be nice to go to a Philly sports game on the weekend.”
Urban first is looking forward to CB East’s 2010 season. The Pats went 16-6 last year, falling to eventual state champion La Salle, 13-8, in the first round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament. But many seniors have graduated.
Still, Urban – who will serve as a co-captain – is optimistic.
“We graduated a great class last year with all an All-American (Matt Hughes) and an Academic All-American (Tom Bashwiner). But we feel like this team has been playing together for a while and is jelling together. We did pretty well in our fall ball league and the junior class is also looking strong.”
