La Salle junior midfielder Jack Bogorowski has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Johns Hopkins University.

Bogorowski, who helped the Explorers win a second straight state championship last year, becomes the second La Salle junior in three days to commit to a Division I power. On Tuesday, attackman Kevin Forster committed to Maryland.

Bogorowski also considered Princeton, Cornell, Duke, Notre Dame and Lehigh.

“I chose Hopkins because of its internationally known academic reputation,” he said. “and because it is the top lacrosse program in the nation. I (also chose it) because of coach (Dave) Pietramala.”

Bogorowski was a regular on a standout middie line that also included his older brother, Derek (now at Lehigh) and All-American Peter Schwartz (Harvard). The Explorers went 21-4 in 2009 and defeated Conestoga to claim the first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association championship.

Bogorowski, who plans to study business, said one of his greatest thrills was getting to play fregularly this year with his brother..

“Winning the state title was a great experience, particularly having the chance to play on the same line as my brother Derek,” he said. “Playing with Derek for the past two years has taught me so much and it is what has got me to the point I am now.”

Bogorowski will join former Explorers teammate Tucker Durkin at Hopkins. Durkin, a defenseman, was the Phillylacrosse.com Player of the Year in 2009 and one of the nation’s top recruits this year.

“Yes, it definitely is a good feeling to know that Tucker is there,” he said. “He’s been a big help to me during the process.”

With players like Durkin, Derek Bogorowski and a number of other starters graduated, the Explorers will rebuild in 2010. But Jack Bogorowski is confident the team will remain a force.

“I think our La Salle program is a great one,” he said. “We have two great coaches in (Bill) Leahy and (Tony) Resch so I am certain we will continue to compete at a high level. We’ve got some strong returning players and some good talent that hasn’t been seen yet. I have no doubt La Salle will be a contender this year.”     Bogorowski played this summer for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club.

He is the third Philly junior this week to commit to a Division I college. Also, Haverford School midfielder Carl Walrath committed to Virginia.
