Immaculata used a six-goal second quarter to take control, and cruised to the 10-6 non-conference men’s lacrosse victory over Alvernia Monday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.

Immaculata improved to 3-6 overall, and is on a two-game winning streak. Alvernia dips to 2-8.

The Crusaders scored three straight goals in a little over a five-minute span to jump out to a 3-0 lead with 2:47 remaining in the opening quarter. Immaculata ended Alvernia’s run as Brendan Dinneen (Archbishop Wood) scored with 1:55 left in the first quarter.

Dinneen’s tally began a stretch of six-straight goals by five different scorers for the Mighty Macs, and Immaculata went ahead 6-3 with 8:22 remaining before halftime.

Alvernia got two quick goals just 1:05 apart to cut Immaculata’s lead to 6-5, but Joe Keller scored unassisted with 3:58 left in the quarter to giving the Mighty Macs the lead at intermission, 7-5.

Immaculata put up two goals in the third while holding Alvernia scoreless, and the Mighty Macs added one more in the fourth.

The Crusaders found the back of the cage with 4:42 left in the contest but that was as close as the Crusaders would come.

John Cacchio (Holy Ghost Prep) led the Mighty Macs with three goals and two assists while Joe Keller (Owen J. Roberts) amassed three points on two goals and one assist. Dinneen finished with two goals, and Brad Hamlet and Jim Baranello (Haverford High) recorded one goal each. Tom Hartney (Interboro) and Kevin Glenn (Penncrest) each registered one assist on the afternoon.

Recent Wapner, Newman, Wigrizer & Brecher Collegiate Scholar-Athlete of the Week choice Andrew Sim (Interboro) made 10 saves to pick up his third win of the season. Kevin Shupp made 21 saves in 60 minutes between the pipes in the loss for Alvernia.

The Crusaders were led by a three-goal performance from Louis Vetrano, and Benjamin Stidham scored two goals.
