The HEADstrong Foundation has announced today that it has added a women’s tournament to go with its highly popular men’s Fall Ball tourney to raise awareness and funds for blood cancer research in the name of former Ridley High standout Nick Colleluori.
The 1st Annual Nick Colleluori Women’s Lacrosse Classic will be held on Saturday, Sept, 26 at HofstraUniversity in Hempstead, N.Y.
Hofstra will host the event, which will showcase 16 teams playing in a round-robin tournament. This fall, several weeks after the Women’s Classic, the HEADstrong Foundation will hold the Third Annual Nick Colleluori Classic at Ridley in a two-day event. Details on that event will be released in the coming weeks.
Nick Colleluori, who played at Hofstra after graduating from Ridley, died in November of 2006 due to non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer he fought hard for months. The HEADstrong Foundation has raised $400,000 for cancer research through the two Classics, sponsorships and sales of t-shirts, laces and other items.
In keeping with Nick’s vision to promote awareness, each team will be provided with lime green laces to be worn during the tournament, showing their support for the cause. Teams also will be required to sell HEADstrong Foundation t-shirts to promote awareness on their campuses.
