GA junior defenseman Tait makes verbal commitment to Syracuse

Germantown Academy junior defenseman Bobby Tait has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at two-time defending National champion Syracuse University.

Tait becomes the second Philly recruit to commit to the Orangemen; the first was Haverford School midfielder Matt Walters.

Tait was a starter on a young GA team that pulled off several key wins late in the season last year in the Inter-Ac League, most notably over then first-place Episcopal Academy, 3-2, and later over Penn Charter, 5-4.

Tait has excelled for Twist Lacrosse Club, which advanced to the quarterfinals of Champ Camp this summer and has remained hot during the fall club season. Tait also made the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association Showcase in June and the Fab Forty team in the inaugural Philly Lacrosse Showcase last weekend at Episcopal.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Tait also considered Georgetown, Dartmouth, North Carolina, Navy, Hofstra and Delaware. He plans to major in Engineering or Business.

“Definitely, a reason I chose Syracuse is the great lacrosse tradition,” said Tait. “I really enjoyed my visit (in October). I liked every one on the team and all the coaches. It’s exciting to go to a school that has won so many national championships, recently. I also went to a football game and I loved the whole atmosphere, and the Carrier Dome.”

Tait, who credited GA coach David Martin and Twist coaches Joe Brodzik and Jack Devlin for his improvement, said he needs to continue working hard to see playing time at the Division I level.

“I just have to continue to work with all my coaches on my game to compete at the college level,” said Tait, also an ice hockey player at GA.

Tait is excited about the coming scholastic season. GA returns most of its players and Tait is confident the Patriots will be a factor in the Inter-Ac race.

“We have a lot of returning guys and we’re really excited for the upcoming season,” he said. “We want to make a statement in the league.”
