The three-time defending champion Duke’s Lacrosse Club and HEADstrong Elite got off to undefeated starts in Champ Camp 20, one of the summer’s biggest boys’ club tournaments.
The games, being held at several sites in the Baltimore area, continue today and conclude Sunday with the championships. The Duke’s and HEADstrong each went 4-0 in pool play games Thursday and Friday and have clinched playoff berths.
Also from Philly, the Duke’s 2 and Twist Blue and Twist Black teams are each 3-1 in pool play and are fighting for playoff spots.
The Duke’s opened with an 8-2 triumph over Palm Beach Storm and then had a 12-2 rout over MadLax Orange. Duke’s then handled Trilogy (TX), 14-3 and NESLL 3, 9-2.
HEADstrong Elite first defeated Leading Edge Black (N.J.), 12-4 and then whipped Long Island’s Smithtown (N.Y.), 11-2. The third win was a hard-fought, 6-5 overtime victory over Team Turnpike (N.J.), and the next win was an easy 11-1 triumph over Team Are You Serious (MA).
Team HEADstrong had one more pool play game remaining early today and will probably meet Canada’s powerful Leading Edge (4-0) in the first round of the playoffs this afternoon.
