The Duke’s Lacrosse Club, based in Philadelphia, was cited in this month’s Inside Lacrosse magazine as the top boys’ club team in the nation for rising juniors.
The Duke’s have won the prestigious Champ Camp title at Johns Hopkins the past three years. Inside Lacrosse mentioned the following Duke’s rising juniors: attackmen Kevin Forster (La Salle) and Joey Sankey (Penn Charter), midfielders Carl Walrath (Haverford School) and Brendan McGrath (Haverford School), defenseman Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum, DE) and goalies Hank Altschuler (Lower Merion) and Conor Kelly (Haverford School).
Duke’s coach Ebe Helm noted that 15 members of the Duke’s made the Philly team released late Monday that will play in next weekend’s Under Armour Underclassmen Games at Towson. Also, four Duke’s graduates will play in the Under Armour Senior All-Star Game at Towson.
Already, 15 members of the Duke’s rising senior class have committed to Division 1 schools. Also, 13 Duke’s grads were named scholastic All-Americans this year in Pennsylvania and 26 Duke’s players earned All-State in Pennsylvania or Delaware. In addition eight Duke’s grads were named college All-Americans in 2009.
“In reflecting upon the Inside Lacrosse honor, it is one that the entire organization can share in,” said Helm. “It’s been built on the ‘sweat’ of 11 years of hard work by so many players and parents, past and present.
“There have been family’s sacrifices. All of our coaches give so much of their time and, of course, we thank the many friends and supporters that help us be and do what we need to do to let players use Duke’s as a vehicle to a higher education.”
