Drexel has been picked as the third-place finisher in the Face-off/Inside Lacrosse men’s Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) preseason poll.

The Dragons, who fell to Hofstra in overtime in the CAA title game last year, feature preseason All-Conference picks Colin Ambler (Abington) at attack, Greg Casey (La Salle) at midfield and Matt McCormick (Malvern Prep) at defense.

Hofstra was picked as the No. 1 team. The Price feature senior midfielder Michael Colleluori (Ridley), who had 10 goals and 15 assists last year.

Inside Lacrosse picked Delaware as the runner-up. The Blue Hens of veteran coach Bob Shillinglaw are paced by junior attacker Curtis Dickson, who had a 62-point season last year. Shillinglaw’s next best weapon is Dickson’s roommate, Martin Cahill, a big, powerful middie who approached 40 points last season.

The magazine said it expects Villanova and Sacred Heart to make waves in the CAA in the last year before the conference undergoes a major overhaul. The Wildcats will begin play with the Big East in 2010, and the Pioneers head to the Northeast Conference. The CAA will bring in UMass and Penn State from the ECAC in order to stay above the requisite six teams for an NCAA Tournament automatic qualifier.
