Westview (Ore.) senior attackman Mike Wenz has committed to play NCAA Division II lacrosse at Chestnut Hill College and will be a member of the school’s first class in 2010.
Wenz, a second-team, All-Metro Conference selection last season, said he also considered Sonoma State, Western Oregon and Babson before settling on the Philadelphia-based school. Chestnut Hill was the only college to which Wenz applied, he said.
“I liked the way the campus was laid out and the fact it’s 15 minutes away from Philadelphia, which is where I grew up,” Wenz said. “When I got in contact with the coach, he immediately asked for a phone interview, and within the same day I was on the phone talking to him. He explained how he was going to run the program and explained everything I wanted to know.”
Wenz said he lived in Wynnewood until age 9, when his family relocated. He said he is excited to make the transition to the college game.
“I think it’s going to be great,” Wenz said. “Just the overall experience of watching high school games and watching college games on TV, everything is different. It’s going to be a great experience to play at a higher level.”
Chestnut Hill will be coached by Richard Carrington.
