Boys’ wrap: Conestoga, Springfield-D win to set up showdown next week

Austin Rogusky scored four goals and Matt Smith had two while Jason Klunder added a goal and three assists to lead Conestoga to a 13-11 Central league victory over Lower Merion Thursday, setting up a showdown of Central League unbeatens next week.

The Pioneers (10-0, 4-0), who are ranked No. 1 in the PA Media Rankings and eighth in the Inside Lacrosse National Lacrosse Power Rankings, will host Springfield-Delco in what amounts to a national showdown. The Cougars, who defeated Strath Haven, 10-4, are 10-0 and 5-0 and ranked 24th in the nation by Inside Lacrosse.

Matt Dilks led the Aces with four goals.

Radnor 11 Garnet Valley 5

The Red Raiders (7-2, 4-1) overcame an early 3-1 deficit and got five goals and an assist from Zack Donnelly to claim the Central League win. Matt Cherry added three goals and two assists and Cole Yeager had two goals and an assist while John Dougherty had one goal. Steve Selverian led the Jaguars with two goals.

Ridley 15, Upper Darby 1

Pat Zimmerman led the Green Raiders with four goals and four assists and Tyler Johnston had two goals and two assists.

Springfield-Delco 10, Strath Haven 4

Colin Keegan scored four goals and Joe Venit added three while Josh Cavanaugh had two goals and Bobby Gildea dished four assists for the Cougars. Dave Alyanakian led the Panthers with two goals.

Penncrest 13, Harriton 5

Adam Yee and Troy Clifton each scored three goals to pace the Lions.

Marple Newtown 7, Haverford High 4

Mike Heiser notched four goals while John McKeighan added two goals for MN in the Central League win. Mike Leyden led ther Fords with two goals.

Downingtown East 9, Unionville 5

Shane Sturgis had four goals and two assists and Taylor Nelson scored twice as the sixth-ranked Cougars (9-1, 5-0) remained perfect in the Ches-Mont League. Richard Kaiser led the Indians with three goals.

West Chester East 12, Great Valley 9

Andrew Protenic had four goals and three assists while Chris McCormick had three goals and one assist and Matt Biegel added three goals as the Vikings claimed the Subruban One Ben Tuscai, Matt Maday also scored once while Eric Gartner led GV with five goals. Justin Laxton had 13 saves for East and Mike McClatchey had 11 saves for the Patriots.

Downingtown West 9, Kennett 2

Joe Paparo, Ryan Higgins and Jamie Raezor each netted two goals for the Whippets.

Bishop Shanahan 11, Henderson 10

Michael Thompson and Keegan Lawton each scored four goals as the Eagles won their third straight and defeated Henderson for the first time in the eight-year history of the program.

Jim Stanley added a goal and three assists, and Anthony DePalo had two goals and two assists.
Emmett Devlin led the Warriors with four goals.

Sun Valley 14, Avon Grove 9

Donnie Krausse pumped in four goals and Bobby Clemens added three for the Vanguards in the Ches-Mont win. Damien Sobieski led the Devils with three goals.

Malvern Prep 10, Emmaus 6

TJ Hanzsche and Harte Thompson scored two goals apiece as the Friars evened their record to 4-4 with the non-league win over the Green Hornets (7-3). Will Scott led Emmaus with three goals and one assist.

Holy Ghost Prep 16, Parkland 9

Colin Becker pumped in six goals and Nick Moses added three goals and two assists as the Firebirds cruised to the non-league win.

Forrest Kelly and Alex Juliano (two assists) added two goals each for HGP while Andrew Cacchio (three assists), Chris Marrone and goalie Andrijko Andrusko each scored once.

Andrusko made 18 saves for Ghost while Dan Gaughn had two.

Jack Firriolo scored three goals and Scott Wilbur had two goals and three assists wgile and Tanner Barbon added two tallies as the Bucks handled the Knights in the Suburban One Continental.

Kenneth Warren scored three goals while Ricky Jutkiewicz had two goals and two assists to lead the Falcons (5-4, 3-0) to the Suburban One National Conference win. Andy MacPherson led the Redskins (6-4, 1-2) with a goal and two assists.
