West Chester East coach Jon Heisman earned his 300th career victory Tuesday when his undefeated Vikings defeated Cardinal O’Hara, 14-0.

Heisman, who won the bulk of his wins when coaching Springfield-Delco, is in his sixth season at East. His career mark at East is 83-22 and this year’s team is off to a perfect 5-0 start and is ranked eighth in the state and fifth in the PIAA in the PA Media Lacrosse Rankings.

The Vikings followed up the win Tuesday by routing Downingtown West, 17-4, in a Ches-Mont League game.

Heisman, a first-team All-American defenseman and captain at Ithaca College in his playing days, led Springfield-Delco to the state championship in 1992. He also lost in the state finals three times (1994, ’96, 97) and reached the final four six times.

Heisman’s teams at East won the Suburban League crowns in 2004 and 2005, when he was named Pennsylvania Coach of the Year. He also helps run Black Bear Lacrosse Club.

No. 1 Conestoga hosts No. 2 Haverford School today in classic boys’ battle

Conestoga, the top-ranked boys’ team in the state (PA Media Rankings) and 25th-ranked team in the nation (Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse Power Rankings), hosts Haverford School, ranked No. 2 in the state, today at 2 p.m. at Teamer Field. The game originally was scheduled for 1 p.m., but was pushed back due to college prep testing.

The Pioneers are 6-0, including a 6-3 opening-day win over La Salle, which entered the year ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 2 in the nation. Haverford has lost only to Baltimore powers McDonogh and St. Paul’s, and is coming off three straight one-gola victories over strong foes, Western Reserve (Ohio), Lawrenceville (8-7) and Brunswick (CT).

The wins over Western Reserve (6-5) and Lawrenceville (8-7) came in overtime. Lawrenceville was ranked 23rd in the nation at the time.
