Springside School’s Caputo is the latest from her school to pick Georgetown University

Springside School rising senior attack Courtney Caputo has made a verbal commitment to play at Georgetown University for 2010-11.

Caputo, an All-Inter-Ac league selection this year, liked the mix of academics and athletics as well as the city atmosphere of Washington D.C.

“I was looking for something that was strong both academically and athletically and Georgetown was my first choice,” said Caputo. “I just fell in love with the school and felt like this is where I wanted to be.

“I love the city and I really wanted to be on a city campus. It is gorgeous, and once I went there I fell in love with everything about it. It has a different feel than the other places I was looking at.”

At Georgetown, Caputo will join another rising senior from Philly, Radnor’s two-time All-American Kelyn Freedman. Also at Georgetown now is Springside grad Bunny O’Reilly, who sat out this year due to injury but returns as a fifth-year senior next season. Two other Springside grads recently played at Georgetown: Zan Morley and All-American goalie Maggie Koch.

“I talked to Bunny before I committed and she had really good things to say,” said Caputo, who has 108 career goals. “

O’Reilly had good things to say about Hoyas coach Ricky Fried.

“He’s really good with player development and I am looking forward to getting better,” said Caputo. “It’s a great opportunity to play Division 1 lacrosse.”

Although Springside struggled in 2009, Caputo is optimistic about 2010. The team also will return midfielder Nicole Lombardo, who has committed to American.

“We had eight seniors graduate last year and we were so young this year,” said Caputo. “We used a lot of freshmen and it was a rebuilding year. Hopefully we’ll be a lot stronger next year.”
