Women’s recruit: Episcopal Academy’s Ivory will be comfortable on the field at Cornell

Episcopal Academy senior midfielder Kate Ivory has committed to play next year at Cornell University.

Ivory, an honorable mention All-Inter-Ac League pick last season, went to a camp at Cornell as a junior and immediately fell for the campus and the Ithaca area.

“I went there for Junior Day and did a camp there and things just clicked,” Ivory said. “I loved everything about it; the lacrosse, the girls and the coaches. It was just perfect.”

Ivory plans to major in communications and combine that with business.

“I think it’s a very good size for me,” she said. “My sister went to Penn State, and this is a smaller version of Penn State; it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere. But it’s a college town and it is awesome. There are a lot of activities going on and I have a lot of family in upstate New York, so there is a comfort zone for me.”

Ivory also feels comfortable with her team at Episcopal. The defending Inter-Ac League champions return most of their key players and were ranked fifth in the first Pennstlvania Lacrosse Media Rankings this week.

“I think our talent definitely speaks for itself, but we need to keep the chemistry going and play as a team,” she said. “If we keep that chemistry, we can go far.”

Ivory noted that EA cannot shoot for the first Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) state title since the Inter-Ac is not a member of the PIAA. But the team can state its case when it plays the likes of Radnor (April 15) and Strath Haven (April 25 at the Katie Samson Festival).

“We usually try to focus on our league,” said Ivory. “Obviously, this year we’re focusing on the league, but also we’re focusing on games against the big public schools. There’s a lot of pressure, but I think we can handle it.”
