Wings’ Iannucci moves closer to record in 13-10 win over Portland

Athan Iannucci inched within one goal of breaking the league’s single-season record for goals by tallying six Friday as the Philadelphia Wings bested the host Portland Lumberjax, 13-10, in National Lacrosse League action.

Iannucci has 60 goals in 13 games and has three games to beat Gary Gait’s mark set in 2003 for Colorado. Tonight the first-place Wings (9-4) meet second-place Minnesota (8-4) in St. Paul in a key battle of Eastern Division powers.

Portland took a 3-0 lead early in Friday’s game, but Iannucci (two assists) scored to make it 3-1 and the Wings trailed just 5-4 at halftime.

In the second half, Iannucci and Jake Bergey (two goals, three assists) late a late charge and goalie Brandon Miller posted 45 saves.

“Good teams find ways to win and this team found one tonight,” said Wings coach Dave Huntley. “Brandon (Miller) and the defense played an unbelievable game and our offense came alive late.”

A.J. Shannon, Merrick Thomson, Jason Crosbie, Brett Moyer, and Jamie Rooney all scored once for the Wings. Dan Dawson led the Lumberjax with six goals.
