Record-setting forward Athan Iannucci of Philadelphia has been named the National Lacrosse League’s Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week.
Iannucci had nine goals and five assists in two games last week and became the NLL’s all-time single-season leader for goals by upping his mark to 63. The old mark was 61 by Colorado’s Gary Gait in 2003.
Iannucci had six goals and two assists in the Wings’ 13-10 win over Portland and then had three more goals in a 15-14 overtime loss to the Minnesota Swarm.
“We’re very proud of Athan and what he’s been able to achieve this season,” said Wings coach Dave Huntley. “He continues to be a big part of our team’s success.”
Iannucci has 20 more goals than his closest competition. The Hofstra University graduate also has 27 assists and has scooped 122 loose balls through 14 games for the 9-5 Wings. The 26-year-old was drafted by the Wings in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft.
