The Philadelphia Wings’ Athan Iannucci was awarded the National Lacrosse League’s (NLL) Player of the Month for the third time this year.
Iannucci had 35 points (25 goals, 10 assists) in six games during the month of April and broke the NLL’s single-season record for goals with 71.
“Athan’s accomplishments this season are quite remarkable given that this is only his second professional season,” said Wings coach Dave Huntley. “I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to develop as a lacrosse player and I think he’ll be a star player in this league for many years.”
Iannucci, who had 29 assists, finished the 2008 regular season as the NLL’s leading scorer with 100 points. He also led all forwards with 138 loose balls. After being drafted by the Wings in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft, the 25-year-old finished his rookie season with 47 points (27 goals, 20 assists) and was third overall in scoring for the Wings.
The Wings face the Buffalo Bandits in the first round of the NLL Champion’s Cup Playoffs Friday at 7:30 p.m. at HSBC Arena. Both teams finished with 10-6 records along with New York and Minnesota, but Buffalo won the top seed by virtue of tiebreakers.
