The U.S. Under-19 National team – featuring four local men – will open play Thursday in the International Lacrosse Federation U-19 World Championships in British Columbia, Canada, against the Iroquois Nationals.

The game will be played at 4 p.m. Pacific time. The U.S. team will play games each of the next four days against Australia, Japan, Canada and England.

The U.S. team roster includes recent Malvern Prep graduate Matt Mackrides (Penn State signee, midfielder), Johns Hopkins rising sophomore Matt Dolente (Malvern Prep), Ohio State rising junior James Green (Central Bucks East, midfield) and Villanova rising sophomore John Lade (defender). One of the assistant coaches is Haverford School mentor John Nostrant.

The 12-team ILF tourney ends July 12. The US team has won all five championships and is a perfect 29-0 in tourney play.

The US team recently completed its five-game exhibition season against All-Star teams from the country with a 4-0 record. One game was halted at halftime due to inclement weather. On Sunday the squad closed by whipping a team from Seattle, 21-2. Dolente, the team’s face-off specialist, won 13-of-14 draws in the game.
