Rochester loss puts Wings in NLL playoffs

April 27, 2008 by Chris Goldberg

The Philadelphia Wings clinched their first National Lacrosse League playoff berth since 2002 Saturday when the New York Titans defeated the Rochester Knighthawks, 12-11, at Madison Square Garden.

That outcome knocked the Knighthawks (8-8) out of contention in the Eastern Division. The Titans clinched a spot and are tied for first at 10-6, along with Minnesota and Buffalo, the division’s top seed by virtue of tiebreakers.

The Wings (9-6) finish the 2008 regular season today against the Toronto Rock at Air Canada Centre at 7:30 p.m. Regardless of the outcome of that game, the Wings will finish in the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division and will play Buffalo in the first round of the NLL playoffs on Friday at HSBC Arena at 7:30 p.m.
