The Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association (EPSLA) quarterfinal playoff game between Ridley and Penn Charter Tuesday night at Conestoga was suspended by lightning with the score tied, 3-3, late in the first half and will be finished Wednesday night.
One bolt of lightning hit at 8:53 p.m. and another struck 25 minutes later, forcing officials to call the game. The game will be picked up at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, also at Conestoga, with 3 minutes, 42 seconds left in the half.
Ridley, the fourth seed, is the Central League champion. Penn Charter, the 12th seed, advanced with a 9-8 overtime win over Germantown Academy.
In the opener Tuesday, top-seeded Malvern Prep blanked eighth-seeded Springfield-Delco, 12-0. The Friars, the top-ranked team in last week’s Phillylacrosse.com Top 10 Poll, will face the winner of the suspended game Friday night at Garnet Valley at 6 p.m. in the semifinals.
The other EPSLA quarterfinal doubleheader Wednesday at Central Bucks West’s War Memorial Field features second-seeded La Salle facing seventh-seeded St. Joseph’s Prep at 6 p.m. and third-seeded Haverford School meeting sixth-seeded Downingtown East at 8 p.m.
