Conestoga U13 A1 team wins Chester County Lacrosse championship

On June 11 for the second year in a row, Conestoga Youth Lacrosse’s U13A1 team took the Chester County Lacrosse Championship by defeating Brandywine, 8-4, at the USTC facility in Downingtown.

Conestoga finished a perfect 22-0 by downing the No. 2 seed.

Conestoga took a quick 3-0 lead in the first quarter with goals from Joey Carlini, Tommy O’Connor and Jake Scott. Brandywine roared right back with two goals, but with minutes left before half-time, Brendan Bassett scored on a perfect feed from Carlini to put Conestoga up 4-2 at half.

Undaunted Brandywine came out on fire. Spreading the field it capitalized early on a goal, making it 4-3. But Jake Scott scored twice in the third quarter to make it 6-3.

Meanwile, Conestoga’s tough defense – anchored by defensemen Nick Mead, Connor Campbell, Jason Clough, Scott Hirshman, Alex Blumenthal and goalie Sean Pepin – put the hammer down on Brandywine’s high scoring attack.

Pepin made several crucial saves and Mead made two crucial take away checks in what was a very tense and exciting, back-and-forth style of play.

With just over four minutes remaining it was still anyone’s game when Pierre Atkinson dodged his defenseman and scored making it 7-4.

Ball control was the key to victory as Tommy O’Connor won yet another face-off in a night where Conestoga dominated face-offs and ground balls. A last minute goal by Carlini made the final 8-4.

Congratulations go to Conestoga Coach Peter Scott, his assistants and squad for their undefeated championship season!
