For the first 24 minutes of Monday’s non-league contest, Archbishop Carroll gave Upper Darby all it could handle.

Then at halftime Royals coach Walt Udovich reminded his Royals to stick to the game plan that they practiced on Saturday against the zone defense of the Patriots.

The result: A 10-goal outburst in the final 24 minutes, giving the Royals the 15-6 victory.

The Royals (2-0) were led in the second half by senior Tom Sharp, who scored four goals. “It was just a matter of time before Tom got going,” said Udovich.

The offensive leader was captain Pete Falk, who contributed two of his three goals in the second half, and added three assists. Coach Udovich used one word to sum up his second year captain: “Warrior.”

“It’s not about personal stats it’s about the team,” Falk said.

The Royals also got two goals each from Sean Riley, Jake Syre and Steve Cesari while Pat Heagy. and Brian Gelsomini and added one each. Goalie Dillon Burke posted six saves.

Carroll (1-2) was led by Andrew Johnson, who scored three goals. Also scoring for the Patriots were Rob Ferguson, Joe Lerario and Matt Keen, while Jim Cuzzupe and John Wynne added assists

The Royals face a tough test Thursday when they host defending Central League champion Conestoga Thursday. The Patriots travel to Norristown Wednesday for a Catholic League match up with Kennedy-Kenrick.
