The Philadelphia Barrage will send two players and coach Tony Resch to the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star Game July 17 at Denver’s INVESCO Field at Mile High.

Midfielder Matt Striebel and defenseman Kyle Sweeney (Springfield-Delco) were selected to play for the Eastern Conference All-Stars by the league’s head coaches, general managers and players. This is the second season that MLL players have had a chance to be involved in the voting process.

Striebel has 16 goals and 7 assists as well as 9 groundballs the Barrage. Sweeney has five goals and four assists and is second on the team with 30 groundballs.

The Eastern Conference All-Stars will be coached by Resch and Boston’s Bill Daye.

The Barrage (4-3) are one game behind first-place Long Island in the Eastern Conference race as it gears for tonight’s 7:30 p.m. game against the Boston Cannons at Harvard Stadium.

Philadelphia is coming off a 14-13 victory Saturday over Washington and goalie Brian Dougherty (Episcopal Academy) was named the MLL Goalkeeper of the Week for his performance (24 saves) in the contest.

Dougherty made 15 of those saves in the first half as the Barrage overcame a 5-0 first quarter deficit. The MLL’s all-time leader in goalkeeper wins, Dougherty ranks third in the MLL with 121 saves while stopping 55.0 per cent of the shots he has faced, good for fourth place in the league.
