D1 women’s roundup: Dean (Cheltenham), Eastman (Springfield-D) help Penn State down Delaware

Theresa Bucci scored five goals and Mary Dean (Cheltenham) added three while Stephanie Ellis (Radnor) made six saves in goal to lift Penn State to a 12-8 victory over host Delaware Saturday in women’s Division I lacrosse.

Jackie Eastman (Springfield-Delco) led the defense for the Nittany Lions (4-2, ranked No. 14) with three groundballs, one caused turnovers and one draw control. Ali Libertini led the Blue Hens with three goals and Julianna Jeffers (Springfield-Delco) scored once while Kalyn McDonough (Unionville) had two groundballs and a caused turnover.

James Madison 21, Richmond 8

Mary Kate Lomady (Abington) tallied five goals for the undefeated Dukes (5-0).

UConn 14, Sacred Heart 7

Lauren Sparks (West Chester East) had two draw controls, two groundballs and two caused turnovers while Jordan Christopher (Villa Maria Academy) added two caused turnovers and a groundball for the red-hot Huskies (6-1).

Colgate 11, American 9

Freshman defender Hallie Snyder (Episcopal Academy) had two groundballs and two caused turnovers to help visiting Colgate (2-4) earn the win. Lisa Schaaf (Perkiomen Valley) scored twice and Amanda Makoid (Archbishop Wood) once for American (2-5).

Ohio State 16, Louisville 15

Gabby Capuzzi (Archbishop Carroll) netted four goals and Kelly Haggerty (Unionville) added three goals and four assists as the Buckeyes (4-2) dealt the Cardinals (4-1) their first loss despite three goals from Bergan Foley (Gwynedd Mercy Academy).

Notre Dame 14, Cal 12, OT

Maggie Tamasitis (Boyertown) had two goals and an assist for the winning Irish (3-1).

Virginia 13, North Carolina 12, OT

Marghi Walters (Penn Charter) scooped a groundball and led the Cavaliers’ defense as No. 8 UVA (4-2) gained a huge ACC win over the No. 3 Tar Heels (6-1). Emily Garrity (Strath Haven) had an assist for UNC.

Duke 10, Georgetown 8

Kim Wenger (Great Valley) collected three caused turnovers and two groundballs and Sara Giedgowd (Conestoga) added two caused turnovers and two groundballs to pace the Duke (7-1) defense. Kelly Barnes (Radnor) scored once for the Hoyas (2-2).

Navy 14, Lafayette 8

Kathy Young (Villa Maria Academy) had two goals and an assist and twin sister Neth Young (Villa Maria Academy) added a goal to help the Mids (8-1) cruise in the Patriot League.

Hofstra 10, Rutgers 9, 2 OT

Courtney O’Connor (Abington) tallied two goals to help the Pride (4-2) deal Rutgers (5-1) its first defeat.
