Penn held off a late Drexel rally and opened its men’s lacrosse season Saturday with a 9-8 triumph over the host Dragons.

Penn’s Joe Kelly gave the Quakers a 9-6 lead with 9:47 to play. Colin Ambler (Abington) scored twice for Drexel (0-2) to pull his team within 9-8, but Penn won the final faceoff and held the ball the rest of the way.

Al Kohart, Alex Weber and Garve Heiderman led the Quakers with two goals apiece while Casey O’Rourke (Haverford School) and Craig Andrzejewski added one apiece. Greg Murray (West Chester East) made 11 saves in the goal.
