Pennsbury rising senior defenseman Lew Sears has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Washington and Lee University (Va.).

Pennsbury's Lew Sears has committed to Washington and Lee

Sears was a Second Team Suburban One National Conference pick in 2011, helping the Falcons advance to the state tournament for the first time. He plays club lacrosse for LB3 and is a member of the Dirty 66 squad of unsung heroes.

Sears, a member of the National Honor Society and Pennsbury’s Academic Excellence Award winner in Music Theory, plans to major in Natural Sciences and also study Music Theory.

He is the third Philly rising senior to commit to Washington and Lee; the others are Malvern Prep’s Graeme Weaver (midfielder) and Jake Glancy (attackman).

“I chose Washington and Lee based on its academic reputation and competitive Division III lacrosse team,” Said Sears. “I wanted to make sure that I picked a school that would challenge me in both areas.”

Sears expects the Falcons to challenge for a league title and compete for another state berth in 2012.

“Pennsbury should have another run in the PIAA state tournament,” he said. “We lost a few leaders, but we have younger players eager to step up and make a name for themselves.”

Sears wished to thank his coaches at Pennsbury and LB3, especially Old Man Banks and Doug Greenfield, Pennsbury assistant coacg. In addition, he thanked his parents and teammates for pushing him to reach his potential.
