Men’s recruit: Villanova lands Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) rising senior attackman Mulrenan

Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) rising senior attackman Tim Mulrenan has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Villanova University.

Mulrenan was named first team all state (non-public), first team all conference (Fitch-Pitt), and first team all county (Essex). He plays summer lacrosse for the Tri-State Black team, and helped the team win the title at Champ Camp.

Mulrenan was also selected for the NJ Under Armour underclassmen team this summer, and helped his team reach the semifinals. He attended Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip Rising senior camp.

Mulrenan has a 3.5 GPA and was on the honor roll this year. He has been accepted into the Business School at Villanova.

Mulrenan also considered Notre Dame, Brown, Yale, Bucknell, Lehigh, Delaware, Navy, Fairfield, and Michigan.

“I chose Villanova because of the great mix of academics and lacrosse,” he said. “The business school is ranked No. 7 in the country. The lacrosse team is on the rise, they were ranked as high as No.7 this season while being led by underclassmen.”

Mulrenan pointed out that Villanova is only a two-hour drive from his home so his family can watch him play. Familiarity also played a role in his decision.

“I know a few players on the team already and they all love the school which gave me confidence that I would also,” said Mulrenan. “Coach (Michael) Corrado and the entire staff made me feel very comfortable when I visited and Coach (Simon) Connor, the offensive coordinator, really drew my attention.”

His team’s outlook for the 2012 season is winning the county tournament. The squad won in 2010 but lost in the final in 2011. Mulrenan said he and his teammates have their sights set on Non Public A Tournament and then the Tournament of Champions.

“We return the main core of our team and we are all good friends on and off the field so this upcoming season will hopefully be a special one,” said Mulrenan.
