Bishop Shanahan rising senior midfielder Summer Jaros has committed to play Division 1 lacrosse at Temple University.

Summer Jaros has committed to Temple

Jaros helped the Eagles (9-7) reach the District 1 playoffs in 2011 and was picked to play in the Brine All-America National Lacrosse Classic this summer. She also was a Philly Showcase Gait Fab 40 pick last fall.

Jaros played on Shanahan’s 2009 state championship volleyball team and also is a member of the swim team.

Jaros, who plays club lacrosse for PA Express, plans to major in business at Temple. She joins fellow Shanahan rising senior Kathryn Skahan (midfield) as an Owl recruit.

“My visit was awesome,” she said. “I love the campus and I felt so comfortable when I was there.”

Jaros and Skahan will join a large contingent of Philly players that have committed to Temple and head coach Bonnie Rosen (Harriton). Rosen, a recent inductee into the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a player, coach and ambassador of the sport, guided Temple into the Atlantic 10 Conference semifinals in 2011.

Other to commit to Temple include: North Penn attack Brenda McDermott, Villa Maria Academy defender Maddy McTigue and Garnet Valley attack Kara Stroup, as well as four from Central PA, Cocalico twins Kara and Avery Longstaff (midfielders), Manheim Township midfielder Megan Pinkerton and Lampeter Strasburg attack Bridget Hufnagel.

Jaros has high expectations for the 2012 season.

“We have a young team,” she said. “We graduated a lot of players, but we are up to the challenge.”
