Strath Haven rising senior midfielder/defender Lexi Mazur has committed to play Division I lacrosse and begin the admissions process at Columbia University.

Strathj Haven's Lexi Mazur has committed to Columbia

Mazur was a Second Team All-Central League pick at defense this year while helping the Panthers (12-7 overall) reach the second round of the District 1 tournament. She plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix.

Mazur, who plans to become a biology major en route to a career in medicine, is an honors student.

She chose Columbia because she has wanted to go to an Ivy League school for most of her life. She is also excited about the up-and-coming lacrosse team.

“I’ve always wanted to go to an Ivy League school, and playing for Columbia I will get an excellent education and while playing for a great team,” Mazur said. “The school has a developing lacrosse program and I love the new coaches as well as the girls.

“My visit to Columbia went really well, and I felt that I got along with all of the girls and felt comfortable around the team and coaches.”

Mazur also considered Lehigh, Colgate and Cornell.

Mazur helped Strath Haven tie for sixth in the powerful Central League this year. The Panthers were eliminated by eventual semifinalist Great Valley.

“We had a tough season this year because the Central League and District 1 were up for grabs, and the loss to Great Valley was difficult,” Mazur said. “However, with that said, we are looking forward to coming out strong next year as a young team and hopefully making it back to states.”

She also thanked her coaches at Phantastix and former Strath Haven coach Jen Duckenfield for their help in the recruiting process.

Note: Student-athletes must continue through the admissions process at Ivy League schools
